What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Why is this such an important question?
Everyone is born with an evil nature – no exceptions! We may not realize it at first, particularly when we look at a smiling baby, but doing something bad always comes easily to us.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psalm 51:5
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Psalm 58:3
There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.Romans 3:10-18
These verses tell us of a horrible truth that we must face honestly and frankly. God is telling us that we are like poisonous snakes. God is telling us that we are altogether rebellious against Him in every fibre of our beings. All the good things that we have been doing are not at all pleasing to God; deep down, we do them for our own selfish reasons, or because we think that through them, God will look with favor upon our spiritual corpses in which we have no life. Moreover, we are enslaved to Satan, who is our master if we are unsaved (Ephesians 2:1-3).
We are sinful
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
You might say, "I'm only human--nobody's perfect!" This Bible verse says the same thing: We are all sinners. We all do things that we know are wrong. This is why we are estranged from God--because God is holy and good, and we are not. So, how do we get right with God, which is why this is such an important question: "What must I do to become saved?"
