What Must I Do To Be Saved?
What am I supposed to be saved from?
The Bible warns us that there is a penalty for sin:
For the wages of sin is death ... Romans 6:23
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness... Romans 1:18
We read some very sobering language about God's penalty and His wrath:
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment...Hebrews 9:27
God says in Matthew 12:36, "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." Our thoughts, words, and deeds, when viewed in the light of the perfection of the law of God, will prove beyond a doubt that we are sinners. To pay for these sins, we must be cast into hell and suffer eternal damnation. What a heartbreaking, impossible future there is for us if we are unsaved. We might have thought we were good people with the best still to come in our lives, and now we discover the awful fact that we are corrupt sinners, subject to the eternal wrath of God. Can there be salvation? Can there be a way of escape from this horrible predicament?
Why will believing in the Lord Jesus Christ save me?
